Today I’m checking in on the hygienic italian hive. This hive is 3 medium plus 1 shallow boxes tall. The queen is at least 2 years old and is a 2nd or 3rd generation queen from a hygienic italian queen I got from Tate’s Apiaries about 4 years ago.
In this video, I talk about knowing what you intend to do before going into the hive, try to show how to check for varroa when the bees build brood comb between the boxes like burr comb, and show a frame of capped brood from this hive. I’m still having trouble controlling the camera one-handed, so you don’t see a lot of the process of rolling larva around to see if there are varroa on them, but you do get some nice footage of the bees in this hive. These are pretty, very nice bees!
